European End-of-Life Vehicle directive - towards a sustainable future In the drive towards sustainability, legislation is constantly being developed to reflect public expectations and environmental concerns. Corus welcomes legislation that is reasonably based and which provides for reduction of environmental impact. Corus’ aim is to ensure that regulations are workable and that they promote real environmental improvement, while the costs associated with their implementation allow the company to remain competitive in global markets. Steel is 100% recyclable, and world-wide 40% of all new steel is recycled material. Steel can cost-effectively be recycled over and over again without any degradation in quality. Corus takes back and reprocesses used steel and as such has effectively been in the End-of-life Vehicles business for decades. Corus working with the industry towards sustainability, has already moved closer to the car manufacturers through its activities in vehicle body design and development. Here Corus has been able to share with OEMs the best uses of the increasingly sophisticated range of materials it supplies. Corus has also been heavily involved in all aspects of the global "Ultralight" programme that has promoted sustainable material and technology solutions to reduce vehicle weight whilst increasing strength and safety performance.
