We consider care for the environment to be essential both in terms of our duty to society and to ensure the continuity of our business. We are committed to protecting the environment by minimising the impact of our operations and our products through the adoption of sustainable practices and through continuous improvement in environmental performance and control.

Corus is a member of the International Iron and Steel Institute and supports its policies on Environmental Principles, Life Cycle Assessment and Climate Change. These can be found on the IISI website at www.worldsteel.org.

ISO14001

One of Corus's main environmental targets is to achieve 95% certification to ISO14001 for all its European manufacturing operations. The company has made substantial progress towards this target and expects to meet it in the very near future.

Legislation

In the drive towards sustainability, legislation is constantly being developed to reflect public expectations and environmental concerns.

Life cycle

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) charts the environmental impact of a material or a product "from cradle to grave" and is an important tool for sustainable development.
