Example uses of the tubular blank

The Tubular Blank enables designers to consider tubular solutions for products which have, until now, been infeasible. The examples presented here demonstrate the use of different features of the Tubular Blank to achieve cost and mass savings compared to more traditional solutions for equivalent or improved performance.

B-Pillar

A desktop study, carried out in collaboration with a European Vehicle manufacturer, was undertaken to assess the feasibility of developing a hydroformed B Pillar.

Crash Integrated Bumper Beam

Using a tailored tubular blank and innovative design rationale, the Crash Integrated Bumper (CIB) offers a significant reduction in parts count, assembly cost and mass compared to more traditional stamped Bumper Beams and Crash Boxes.

Shotgun

Using a Conical Tubular Blank and Hyfo’s innovative Knowledge Based Engineering tools, a solution was developed to replace a traditional stamped and spot welded Shotgun design with a single piece hydroform.
