Focus on customers wins Corus Automotive Service Centre recognition in industry ‘Oscars’
21 Jun 2001
After fighting off stiff competition from over 230 of the UK’s leading manufacturers to reach the final stage of the MX2001 Manufacturing Excellence Awards, Corus’s Automotive Service Centre was celebrating after receiving the runners-up award in the prestigious Customer Focus category.
Widely acknowledged as the industry ‘Oscars’, the MX2001 Awards are organised by the Institution of Mechnical Engineers to recognise companies that have excelled in manufacturing. This year they attracted a record number of entries, from which the judges selected 15 finalists, including Jaguar Cars, BAE Systems and BOC Edwards. As well as the overall Award for Manufacturing Excellence, these finalists were competing for individual and category awards in the key areas of product and process innovation, resource efficiency, people effectiveness and customer focus.
Corus Automotive Service Centre was nominated in the Customer Focus category by the MX2001 assessment panel, which felt that its entry demonstrated a strong performance in this area. Their initial view was strengthened following a visit to the service centre, which is the UK’s leading supplier of processed strip steel to the automotive industry. This involved a detailed business presentation and a tour of the facility to see the production of a wide range of complex steel blanks that are used for the manufacture of automotive panels and underbody components.
Corus Automotive Service Centres' General Manager, Steven Norgrove, said:
“In today’s automotive market our success is dependent on our ability to understand and anticipate both the current and future needs of our customers."
“We are delighted at receiving the runners-up award in the Customer Focus category. It recognizes much hard work and commitment from everyone in our business as we strive for the highest possible standards. Our challenge now is to maintain this momentum in a world of ever increasing change.”
